Instant Shade for West Central Florida Living
Living in neighborhoods like Lakewood Ranch or Siesta Key means enjoying the Florida sunshine. However, by 2:00 PM, the heat on your patio can become unbearable. You might find yourself retreating indoors just when you want to enjoy your outdoor space.
Traditional fixed covers can block your view or get damaged in high winds. Cat 5 Hurricane Installation offers a better way. Our retractable awnings provide on-demand shade that protects your family from the sun without the permanent bulk of a roof.
Retractable Patio Awning Systems for Decks and Patios
Retractable awnings are versatile shading systems that extend over outdoor spaces using articulating lateral arms. Unlike fixed structures, they retract into a low-profile housing when not in use.
This preserves your home’s architecture and protects the fabric during Florida’s high-wind events.
Heavy-Duty Engineering
We use heavy-duty lateral arms with dual-cable tension systems. This keeps the fabric tight and prevents sagging. You can choose a simple hand crank for manual control or a left motor or right motor for automatic use.
For those who want the best, we offer Somfy motorized systems that connect to your phone.
Energy Efficiency Facts
Installing an awning is a smart financial move. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, retractable awnings can lower solar heat gain by 65% to 77%. This significantly reduces the load on your air conditioner.
- Temperature Drop: Patios under our awnings can feel up to 15 degrees cooler.
- Lower Bills: Homeowners save an average of $200 annually on cooling costs.
- Furniture Safety: Block 98% of UV rays that fade your outdoor cushions and rugs.
Durable Acrylic Fabric and Powder-Coated Construction
High-quality awnings feature solution-dyed acrylic fabric like Sunbrella. This material is breathable, water-resistant, and chemically bonded with UV inhibitors.
When paired with a powder-coated aluminum frame, the system resists the salt air and humidity common along the Florida Suncoast.
Quality Materials for the Coast
We avoid cheap polyester fabrics that fade and tear. Instead, our acrylic fabric is dyed all the way through the fiber. This means the color stays vibrant for years. We use stainless steel hardware to prevent rust.
This is vital for homes near Bayshore Boulevard or the St. Pete Pier.

Professional Awning Installation Across the Suncoast
SGE Summary: Expert installation ensures your awning is securely anchored to withstand Florida’s weather. Whether mounting to a wall or a roof, professional fitting prevents structural damage and ensures the correct pitch for water runoff.
This is vital for homes in St. Petersburg and Citrus County.
Local Expertise
Our team understands the unique needs of Pasco, Hernando, and Manatee counties. We install retractable patio awnings that fit the style of your home perfectly. We also offer smart wind sensors. These sensors detect high winds and signal the motor to retract the awning automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can retractable awnings stay out during a Florida storm?
You should retract your awning if winds exceed 25 mph. Our automatic wind sensors can handle this for you by pulling the awning in when gusts get too strong.
What is the best fabric for Florida awnings?
We recommend solution-dyed acrylic. It is more durable than polyester and resists the mold and mildew common in our humid climate.
How much do retractable awnings cost in Sarasota or Tampa?
For 2026, professional installation for a medium patio awning typically ranges from $2,500 to $5,500. This depends on size and motor options.
How do I clean my awning?
Use a crank handle to fully extend the awning. Rinse it with a hose and use mild soap. Let it air dry before retracting it to protect the fabric.
